Design, computers aside, is a paper profession. Ideas on paper accumulate like a pile of dry leaves rustling in the fall. A tiny sketch might prove valuable later on when it becomes clear what motivated you to make that drawing. So maybe best not to throw that scrap out!
There’s a painting, probably now lost, that I just retrieved as a digital image:

“Water Whorls”
At the time the painting somehow didn’t seem entirely satisfactory, not worth saving. Now I look at it and immediately (and humbly) recognize the influence of the paintings of Edvard Munch — something that wasn’t apparent at all before. Now it’s also clear that this was the kernel of a strong idea that has since evolved through other works (new Brush Strokes logo below).

Sometimes clearing the deck makes way for fresh ideas. Sometimes you realize the fish you threw back into the sea was, indeed, a “keeper.”
