RIVER of COMMERCE

Launching new rowing poster images onto the “River of Commerce” is an adventure on a fast moving stream. After many hours in the studio it’s great to get new stuff out the door and on its way to a wider audience (see above: “Water Ballet”).

We specialize in fine art rowing posters, dedicated to reviving what could be considered a “lost art.” Though there are excellent photographic rowing posters out there that we tip our hat to, we’re interested in working by hand, sketching or painting. The computer, for us, updates the silkscreening process used back in the day in order to communicate our images to a broader audience. Brush Strokes also accepts poster and/or banner design commissions for other sports, organizations, trade shows, businesses or events.

Perhaps the heyday of rowing posters was in the early to mid part of the 20th century when rowing as a sport drew the kind of crowds and enthusiasm you would now only find in a football, basketball or baseball stadium. In terms of the thrilling level of public appeal that rowing held just listen to the BBC radio broadcast of Joe Burk at the Diamond Sculls race in England back in the ’40′s.

You might be able to do us a huge favor! We’ve heard that aforementioned BBC broadcast but have lost track of the link. We’d like to share it with our site visitors. Can you find it? Here’s  a link to more info on Joe Burk:
